You spend so much time working. Isn’t it worth the effort to look your best? Looking and feeling great will boost your confidence and perhaps your productivity, too.
Today, it’s pretty easy to point out a lawyer, banker, barista or digital artist based on how they’re dressed. Some co-workers are focused on being on trend and up with the latest fashion, while others are less concerned with their look. No matter where you fall in this spectrum, it’s important to at least think about how you want to showcase your personal brand in the office. Here are seven ways to help you look your best at work.
Office lighting can be draining to skin tones and accentuate dark circles. If that’s the case where you work, then simply accept it. At the very least, you know everyone in your office is in the same boat.

Staring at a computer monitor for hours does not help us look our best at the office. Do yourself a favor, regularly look away from your monitor and you’ll benefit your eyes and your work.
I cannot stress enough the importance of moisturizing. Keep some hand moisturizer at your desk and remember to use it.
If you don’t like the feel of greasy hands, then try this technique: squirt a little moisturizer onto the back of one hand and use the back of your other hand to rub in the hand cream. With this method, you’ll avoid getting moisturizer across your keyboard, mouse and phone.
Check your office policy and see if you’re allowed to use a mini humidifier. A humidifier will help combat dry air, which is a common side effect of constant air conditioning. If bringing in electrical appliances is a no-no, take a low-tech approach and remember to drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated from the inside out.
Whether you have a specific office dress code or you can relax with a more casual look, make sure you’re always comfortable. If you have straps digging in or if you can’t walk in those shoes, then choose another outfit. No matter how good an outfit looks when you first put it on, you won’t look your best at work if
you’re distracted and uncomfortable all day.
Ditch anything that’s worn out. This one can be hard if you love a certain item, but wearing something that’s frayed or has seen better days isn’t going to help you make a great impression. You don’t need to break the bank to look your best at work, but keep your clothes clean, ironed and neat.

It’s not as if anything drastic happened to our looks overnight. Nothing happened. This just goes to show that feeling beautiful is a state of mind. Here are a few ways to get into the mindset of feeling gorgeous, even on the worst of days.
It may sound cliché, but the key to feeling fantastic is confidence. Confidence is the reason that some people manage to be the center of attention regardless of what they look like––and it’s something you can use to your advantage. If you want to look the part, you need to act it. So, banish negative thoughts and start giving yourself positive reassurances. Focus on the attributes you really like about yourself, and dismiss any negative thoughts that may cross your mind. Love how your hair looks? Then give yourself a reassuring pat on the back and think to yourself, ‘I am fabulous!’
An instant mood booster (and another way to look beautiful) is to smile. Don’t believe me? Just try putting a smile on your face, even if you don’t feel like it, and see how it feels. In addition to its mood-boosting benefits, it’s been said that smiling makes a person look and feel beautiful. When a person smiles, it causes others to perceive them as more attractive––and I’m a firm believer that a smile can take years off of your appearance. Stop the Comparisons It’s easier than ever to compare yourself to others, and all too easy to fall into the trap of seeing how you
measure up to others. But it does nothing for your self-confidence. Every person is unique, and you have positive assets that others may feel they lack. The best way to feel beautiful is to view yourself as an individual, not as one person in comparison to another.
Sometimes you can just feel stuck in a beauty rut, which can contribute to not feeling great about yourself. Why not change things up with a fun makeover? Reinventing your look could provide excitement and just the change you need to get out of that rut and feel fabulous again. Switching it up with a new haircut, clothes or even a lipstick shade could be just the change you need. Embrace a fresh style that feels comfortable to you. You’ll gain confidence knowing you look great, and you’ll face the world with newfound enthusiasm.
The way you sit and stand says a lot about the way you think of yourself. Those with good posture signal to the world that they feel confident and beautiful with non-verbal communication cues. Even if you don’t feel beautiful, sitting or standing tall with your shoulders back will radiate your self-assurance to the outside world. Every time you catch yourself slouching over, take a few seconds to correct your posture. You should feel more poised and confident.
Sometimes you just need a good pampering session to feel beautiful. When you’re feeling tired, stressed or anxious, you probably won’t be feeling your most fabulous. Try taking a break for an hour or even a whole day if you can, and get back in touch with your true self. If you’re in a relaxed state of mind, you’re more likely to have positive feelings toward yourself. You can try any relaxing activity, whether it’s a nice walk in the park (with sunscreen, of course), visiting the salon or purchasing a new outfit. My favorite is a Me Time bubble bath with candles, facial mask and exfoliating scrub.

To make it convenient, carry travel-sized hand cream wherever you go—keep some at your office, in your car and in your bag. And don’t forget gloves. When venturing outside, gloves will not only keep you warm but they’ll protect the skin on your hands from cold temperatures!
Ever notice how foundation or blushes don’t apply as easily during wintertime? That’s because skin tends to be drier in winter, leading to flaking and dry patches. In times like these, using a primer will help cosmetics go on more smoothly. You can also try tinted moisturizer, which will moisturize and give your skin a little coverage without drying. If you have dry skin, here are some simple tips you can follow to help.
Sometimes it feels like no matter what I do, when I look in the mirror I just look dried out and older then I really am. It’s not just about how my skin looks, it’s also about how it feels when it’s dry. I’m not sure if having dry skin is worse than having oily skin, or vice versa. On average, people with dry skin tend to have fewer blemishes and breakouts than someone with oily skin. But we do tend to look a little bit older when our skin is dry. People who have oily skin tend to look a bit younger, but unfortunately, they can have more blemishes and breakouts and have larger-sized pores.
As dry skin can be disheartening, I put together some tips that have worked for me over the years that may also help you.
I’m the first to admit that there’s nothing better than a hot shower or bath. However, while the rest of the body feels great, the heat can cause your skin to dry. Hot water can strip your body of its natural oils that act as a barrier on your skin. This barrier is super important, because it helps trap much needed moisture that keeps your skin stay hydrated, soft and smooth. If you can, avoid a hot shower and take a nice warm one instead. And while we all love to linger in the tub, it’s best to get in and out quickly to avoid the drying of our skin. Limit yourself to 5 to 10 minutes maximum. When you get out of the shower, gently pat your skin dry, don’t rub, and immediately apply your facial and body moisturizers.
When we cleanse our skin, sometimes we get a little rough. It’s as if we literally want to scrub our bodies clean. When it comes to dry skin, you need to take it easy and gently cleanse. Don’t exfoliate or scrub your skin too hard, because it can irritate and thicken your skin—not a good thing. It’s important to use gentle cleansers as well. Anything with harsh detergents can leave your skin feeling extra dry and irritated. Choose a cleanser that contains natural ingredients like Aloe vera, which will help soothe and soften the skin. Lastly, remember to rinse clean. You want to remove all traces of soap and cleanser from your body, especially your face. Lingering product can cause drying and itching.
We’ve discussed at great length the importance of sun care products for the face and body. The damage caused by the UVA and UVB rays not only burns our skin, but also contributes to skin aging. The signs of aging are not pretty and include fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, skin roughness and dryness. It’s important to wear sunscreen products year-round, not just in the summer. You must include a protective moisturizer with broad spectrum sunscreen into your regimen for daily protection against the sun’s rays and to help alleviate dryness.
For all of the guys out there who have dry skin, this one is for you. Shaving your face can definitely irritate dry skin. Each time you scrape a razor across your skin you’re not only removing unwanted hair, you’re also removing your natural oils. It’s important to shave during or immediately after your shower. This will allow your facial hair to become softer and more pliable, which ultimately will make shaving easier for you. Make sure your razor is sharp so you can avoid irritation. Always use a shaving cream or gel, preferably one with moisturizing properties. Avoid alcohol-based aftershaves and toners at all costs, as they will only contribute to further dryness. Choose a good facial toner as a healthier alternative to aftershave.
If your skin is dry and uncomfortable, adding moisture is very important. Again, apply your moisturizers immediately after your bath or shower while your skin is still damp. Be sure to use a daytime product that contains SPF and a richer, replenishing night cream at bedtime. A hydrating eye cream is perfect for the delicate skin around the eyes. An all-over body lotion or gel will help with dryness and itchiness everywhere else on the body. The legs, arms, back, hands, and everywhere else can get dry without proper moisturizing. If you suffer from dry hands, be sure to apply a nice hand and body lotion every time you wash your hands. When water evaporates from your skin, it can draw even more moisture out of your skin. A good moisturizing cream or lotion is really your best defense against dry skin.
Now that we’ve discussed being moisturized on the outside, remember it’s also important to moisturize on the inside. Drinking water throughout the day keeps your body and skin hydrated.

Don’t Worship the Sun
You might look better with a suntan, but there’s a good chance you’re doing mor harm than good. Put down the tanning oil and pick up the sunscreen. And whatever you do, avoid tanning beds at all costs. It’s important to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. These rays burn your skin and are a leading contributor to early aging. You might look good with that savage tan today, but flash-forward and you might not be happy with the wrinkly person staring back at you from the mirror. Sunscreen is critical when it comes to protecting your skin and you should never go out into the sun without it. Sunless tanners have come a long way and you don’t need to worry about the orange ‘fake bake’ look anymore. And the best part is you can get that gorgeous tan 12 months out of the year.
You probably love the way you look after a good buffing and polishing, but there‘s such a thing as too much of a good thing. Exfoliation of the face and body is something that you should be doing on a regular basis. But you need to be gentle. Remember, your skin is a living organ and you need to take care of it. Never Pop Pimples
You’re probably guilty of popping a pimple or two at some point. It’s so tempting to do that it seems almost unavoidable. But it’s very important to resist the urge to jab at outbreaks. Every time you start attacking a pimple, you run the risk of making the problem even worse. You can spread bacteria to other areas of your face. The troubling spot can now look bigger and much redder than before. Not only that, but the picking could result in permanent scarring. No matter what, resist the urge to pop those pimples and be patient in weathering the breakout storm.
It’s amazing how a lack of sleep and stress can negatively impact your skin. It’s impossible to look your best when you’re exhausted and stressed out. Remember, we call it “beauty sleep” for a reason, because we definitely look our best when we’re well rested.
